Over one lakh devotees have darshan on ‘Vaikunta Ekadasi'

Staff Reporter

TIRUMALA: The ‘Vaikunta Ekadasi' festival which was conducted ceremoniously on Friday has engraved a new ‘leaf' in the history of the Tirumala temple with the TTD management dexterously enabling a record number of over one lakh pilgrims have darshan of the presiding deity in a single day.

According to TTD Joint Executive Officer K. Bhaskar, 1.05 lakh devotees had darhsan of the Lord besides having the divine opportunity of passing through the ‘Vaikunta Dwaram' – the passage encircling the innermost sanctum sanctorum of the hill temple.

Although there seemed to be no respite in the visiting crowd for the second consecutive day on Friday, Mr. Bhaskar sounded optimistic that the temple administration would clear at least two lakh devotees by Friday midnight – before the closure of Vaikunta Dwaram.

Earlier, in the morning as part of the Vaikunta Dwadasi celebrations, ‘Chakrasnanam' was organised at the sacred temple tank (Pushkarini) situated adjacent to the main temple complex.
