HYDERABAD: Transport Minister Botcha Satyanarayana has changed the statement he made on Friday that Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on assuming charge as Chief Minister for a second term in May 2009, did not sign the file providing for nine-hour power supply to farmers as promised in the Congress manifesto. The Minister convened a media conference here on Saturday to modify the statement and assert that YSR, indeed, signed the file but did not issue a Government Order. Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy, former Kadapa MP, could ascertain this from his father's “umpteen advisors”, he added. He said Dr. Reddy had kept the decision on hold due to financial problems as the fiscal deficit reached a high of Rs. 25,000 crore due to the global meltdown. He quoted YSR as telling his Ministers that he would implement the promise once the situation improved. The Minister had gone on record on Friday asking reporters to approach Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy to verify why his father did not sign the file to provide nine-hour supply.
