VIJAYAWADA: Lagadapati Rajagopal, MP, has urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to direct the Food Corporation of India to procure the entire paddy produced by the farmers, including the discoloured, broken and sprouted variety, at minimum support price. In a letter to the Prime Minister written on Friday, a copy of which was released to the media on Saturday, Mr. Rajagopal said that the farmers were very much agitated in Andhra Pradesh and if these measures were not taken in a time-bound manner, “it may result in farmers resorting to suicides”. He said though crop insurance scheme was available there were lakhs of farmers who had not enrolled themselves under the insurance scheme.
