The actor will also launch a website Host of programmes planned as part of project Kozhikode: The youth and student organisations of various political parties will actively join the district administration's initiative to make Kozhikode a plastic-waste-free district, Mass Action for Plastic-waste-free Kozhikode (MAP). Activists and leaders of these organisations will declare their solidarity with the project in a rally and public meeting to be held in the city on Monday. Talking to presspersons at the Collectorate about the progress of the project on Saturday, District Collector P.B. Salim said the solidarity meeting of youth and students' organisations would be inaugurated by Mammootty, film star, at 11.30 a.m. The feeder organisations of all political parties had agreed to give support to the project. Terming the “encouraging response” from the youth and student organisations to the project an “extremely positive sign,” Mr. Salim said the mass rally would start from the Malabar Christian College premises and end at the Mananchira Square. Mammooty would launch a website, www.actforindia.com, on the occasion. The website, he said, is a common platform for the public to contribute and suggest innovative ways to improve public life and general governance. “It is a new way for an involved governance, igniting dialogues and actions for the development of the district and the nation,” said Mr. Salim adding that clubs, individual volunteers and organisations can register with the site. Explaining the list of programmes to be held in the district as a run-up to the day of declaring Kozhikode a plastic-waste-free district (January 30), Mr. Salim said that January 22 would be observed as “quit plastic day” in the district. Human chain A human chain will be organised in the district from Azhiyur to Ramanattukara on January 26. “The district will also take a pledge against plastic waste on the occasion,” the Collector said.
