ICC satisfied with Chepauk stadium

Chennai: Amid reports that the International Cricket Council (ICC) was unhappy with the pace of re-construction work at two of the stadiums (Wankhede and Eden Gardens) hosting the 2011 World Cup, the secretary of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA), K.S. Viswanathan, revealed on Saturday that the ICC was “satisfied” with the progress made at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.

“The ICC had voiced concerns earlier. However, a team from the ICC visited Chepauk on December 6 and was satisfied with the speed of work,” Mr. Viswanathan said.

The TNCA secretary added: “The deadline for the completion of work is January 15, 2011, and we are confident we would be able to finish the job ahead of time here. All major work is almost complete and we only need to install portable roofs on three stands.”

The portable roofs have been imported from Australia. “Putting these roofs in place will not consume much time,” said Viswanathan. — Special Correspondent
