Tamil writers and scholars honoured

felicitation:Film director Pandiraj being honoured in Pudukottai on Sunday.

PUDUKOTTAI: Tamil scholars and writers were honoured at a function held under the auspices of Pudukottai Ilakkiya Peravai here on Sunday. Former Union Minister of State S. Regupathy felicitated a total of 36 scholars with titles and citations.

Literary associations bring to light the achievements of writers, poets, novelists and film directors, he said.

Mr. Regupathy released books titled ‘Vaanam thodum sigarangal' and ‘Palkalai vithagar Kavignar Thangam Moorthy' both authored by M. Muthu Srinivasan, president of the Peravai. He conferred the lifetime achievement award on V. N. Chidambaram, former fit-person of Sri Meenakshi Amman temple in Madurai.

The citation presented to Mr. Chidambaram referred to his efforts in the area of conservation of stone idols of Sri Meenakshi Amman temple.The citation on Pandiraj referred to his achievement in directing the film ‘Pasanga' which bagged the national award. “Mr. Pandiraj, hailing from a remote village in Pudukottai district, is a symbol of hard work,” the citation said.

The citation on A. Anthony, an industrialist, spoke of his hard work which led to him to become an entrepreneur from a beggar. The book ‘Vanam thodum sigarangal' refers to the achievements by a group of ten persons – political leader, educationist, industrialist, environmentalist all hailing from Pudukottai district. Mr. Muthu Srinivasan said that he had brought out 32 books recording the achievements of 371 persons of the district.
