Mandalpatti cultural competition evokes good response

A carnival: ‘Pareyakali' performance by Kodava men at Mandalpatti in Kodagu on Sunday.

Madikeri: Residents of Mukkodlu, Mutlu, Kalur, Hammiyala and Hachinad in the remote corner of Madikeri taluk indulged in revelry by taking part in various sports and cultural competitions at Mandalpattiin Kodagu, on Sunday.

Ravi Thammaiah, principal convenor of the Coorg Western Ghats Principal Inhabitants Liberation Organisation, has been organising the meet for the last 14 years. He offered the traditional “meedhi” (oblations to ancestors) at the “mand” (place of religious congregation) before the start of the events.

Competitions involving men in the traditional ‘Bolakat', ‘Kolatt', ‘Balopat' and ‘Pareyakali' were held later.
