CUTTACK: Cuttack civic body which was upgraded to a Corporation status in 2003 is all set to host the 100th All India Mayors' Conference scheduled for January 8. Since such a conference is being held in Orissa for the first time, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation is excited about the event, said Mayor S K Ghosh on Tuesday. “This is a privilege for the Millennium city to host the 100th national-level conference and we request all the citizens of the city to make it a grand one”, the mayor hoped adding that this would be an occasion to showcase the rich tradition and culture of the city through several cultural programmes. All the executive heads of 100-odd civic bodies in the State, including Mayors and corporators of Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Berhampur municipal corporations are invited to attend the meet. Besides, more than 500 delegates from outside the State are also going to participate in the meet which is scheduled to be inaugurated by State chief minister Naveen Patnaik. Cuttack Mayor hoped that the national conference would provide the right forum for all the participants to discuss the problems afflicting the civic bodies across the country. Arrangements are made to take all the delegates for a sight-seeing tour to Konark and Puri who would also have an audience with State Governor, Mr Ghosh added.
