Kochi: The Kerala High Court, on Tuesday, issued notice to T.J. Anjelose, Chairman of Plantation Corporation of Kerala Ltd. (PCK), on a public-interest-litigation petition seeking the constitution of a tribunal to grant compensation to people affected by the application of Endosulfan. A Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice J. Chelemeswar and Justice P.R. Ramachandra Menon, ordered notice in the petition filed by T. Asif Ali seeking to implead Mr. Anjelose. N.K. Manoj, Managing Director of the corporation, had filed an affidavit in the court stating that the corporation had not performed any illegal activity or violated rules in the use of Endosulfan and was not liable to pay any compensation. Stern action The High Court on Tuesday observed that a constant and consistent check and stringent action were required to control increasing number of accidents in the State. It directed the Transport Commissioner to take appropriate action and file a report by January 13. The directive in this regard was issued by Justice C.T. Ravikumar on a petition filed by KAIS of Pattambi against speeding by vehicles. The court said despite strict insistence on fitting speed governors, certain types of vehicles like tipper lorries were “motoring like meteors.” — PTI
