Ramanathapuram
Lack of facilities:AIADMK cadres staging a demonstration in Ramanathapuram on Tuesday. RAMANATHAPURAM: Cadres of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) on Tuesday staged demonstration here protesting against the indifferent attitude of the Ramanathapuram municipality in completing the underground drainage project. Former Minister A. Anwar Raja presided over the agitation in which the cadres and leaders of Marumalarchi Dravaida Munnetra Kazhagam, Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Communist Party of India, Puthiya Thamizhagam and others took part. The agitators raised slogans against the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, which was the majority in the Ramanathapuram Municipality, for failing to complete the project within the stipulated time. They accused that though many households had paid the deposit, they had not been given the UGD connections so far. Difficulties Most of the roads had not been revived, forcing the residents to undergo difficulties while walking along the roads and driving. They said the Municipal administration had failed to take effective steps to prevent flooding. Many streets and several houses in the town were still surrounded by water giving rise to unhygienic conditions. The inlet and outlet channels were not properly maintained. Corruption They also charged that corruption had taken the centre stage in the Municipality. The public money had been spent improperly.
