MADURAI: The Chairman and Managing Director of Indian Bank, T. M. Bhasin, inaugurated an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) at the new terminal of the airport here on Sunday. Speaking to media persons, he said that the bank's Madurai Zone had 53 ATMs and 63 branches. Before this fiscal-end, seven ATMs and as many bank branches would be opened while another 20 ATMs and 10 branches had been planned for next year. The Madurai Zone had more than 2.78 lakh ATM cardholders. As many as 1,000 smartcards had been distributed in villages. The customers could use smartcards for many banking services such as remittances. The bank had a current business level of Rs. 1.70 lakh crore and it would reach Rs. 1.85 lakh crore before the fiscal-end. The bank had 1,069 ATMs in the country, of which 775 were attached to branches and 294 were off-site. The bank also had the largest network of ATMs among nationalised banks in Tamil Nadu, according to a press release. K. Sangiah Pandian, Airport Controller; Rajeev Rishi, Executive Director of the bank; M. Kathiresan, Zonal Manager; S. Anantharaman, Assistant General Manager; and B.R. Gopal Ram, Avaniapuram Branch Manager, were present.
