Four killed as bus rams lorry
Staff Reporter
Bangalore: Four persons were killed and 18 were injured when a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus rammed a stationary lorry at Thalekere Hand Post on National Highway 4 in Bangalore Rural district on Tuesday morning.
Nelamangala Rural police identified the dead as bus driver Shyam Veluraj (45), Dastagir Saab (50), Shanthamma (30) and Sharanappa (35).
The bus, with 35 passengers, was coming to the city from Kalghatgi in Dharwad district. For reasons as yet unclear, the bus driver swerved to the left and rammed the lorry parked on the margin of the highway, the Nelamangala Rural police said. Because of the impact, death was instantaneous for the four, who were seated right in the front.
The 18 injured were shifted to a private hospital near Nelamangala.
