KARUR: It has been targeted to sell handloom textiles worth Rs. 30 lakh through the exhibition being organised here in connection with the Pongal festival.
The exhibition will be on till January 4. District Revenue Officer T. Pitchaiah inaugurated the exhibition at the PLA Thirumana Mandapam on Tuesday in the presence of State Handloom Advisory Committee member Paramathi A. Shanmugam and Assistant Director (Handlooms) A. Murugan.
Mr. Pitchaiah said there was a discount of up to 30 per cent on select items and varieties.
Handloom cooperative societies from districts, including Erode, Coimbatore, Kancheepuram, Namakkal, Madurai, Ramanathapuram, Dindigul, Salem, Tirunelveli and Vellore have put up stalls.
In all, there are 18 stalls selling Kora silk sarees, ornamental bedspreads, jacquard and plain bedspreads, various cotton and silk varieties in sarees among others.
