Letters to the Editor
The editorial on Sachin Tendulkar (“The many facets of greatness,” Dec. 21) is an excellent commentary on perhaps the greatest Indian performer across all fields. If consistency in performance is a hallmark of greatness, very few can match him. Sudarshan, Chennai Sachin Tendulkar's 50th Test hundred is a great achievement. He is a synonym for success but is untouched by it. He is a rare mix of superlative achievement and modesty. The mind-boggling statistics of his peerless career are mere numbers. It is his fresh approach to each game that sets him apart from other equally talented players like Brian Lara, Ricky Ponting, and Sunil Gavaskar. Dushyant Singh Panwar, New Delhi It is the Oscar for the movies and the Nobel for various fields but in sport, it is the fan base that matters. Every Indian can guarantee that the winner in this category is Sachin Tendulkar. Arun Manivel, Chennai Statistics cannot measure Sachin's greatness as they do not record the nitty-gritty of the real game of cricket. His well disciplined life, on and off the field, will forever remain a source of inspiration. N. Jayaprasad, Coimbatore
