‘Women enjoyed equal position in Rig Vedic society'

Anantapur: Dr. Abdul Khadar, principal, Government Degree College for Women, observed that women enjoyed equal status in Rig Vedic society and acquired  right to property during Satavahana period and fought in the battle fields during Vijayanagar period, but in modern society women are subjected to dowry deaths and domestic violence.

He maintained that women warriors including Razia Sultana, Rani Rudrama and Jhansi Lakshmi Bai fought not just for kingdoms but they stood as embodiment of women empowerment in hostile circumstances.

Addressing a workshop on women empowerment on the college premises here on Wednesday, resource persons - Dr. Sashi Kala and Dr. Vijaya Lakshmi Devi- called upon the girl students to emulate Indira Gandhi.
