BANGALORE CALLING:The Russian and Kenyan performers are a special attraction. Bangalore: The Great Bombay Circus is back in Bangalore after 38 years! The circus, which has pitched its tent at the Palace Grounds opposite the TV Tower in J.C. Nagar here, commenced performances on Tuesday. The legendary circus, founded by Baburao Kadam in 1920, will feature African, Russian and Chinese artistes. Fusion Srihari Nair, media coordinator for the circus, told presspersons here on Tuesday that the show offers people a fusion of complete entertainment with daring acrobatic acts and visual spectacle. A special attraction is a six-member troupe from Russia and five young Kenyans. The Russians —Zareena, Raseena, Ozod, Ananya, Shezod and Nagmath — have qualified from the Tashkent Circus College, while the Kenyans — Juma, Essir Muhammad, Safari, S. Safari and Richard — from Mombasa, will dance to the rhythm of Caribbean music. “The circus has around 300 employees, including 30 male artistes, 60 female, 40 administrative staff and 180 support staff. The mobile zoo has 64 animals, consisting of elephants, horses, camels and rare birds such as the scarlet macaw, blue and yellow Macaw, Moluccan cockatoos, African lory, African grey parrot and pigeons.” The performance will include Chinese roller act, cube pyramid juggling, Russian Palotna acrobatics, Chinese candle balance, American limping board, Russian spider ring act, vertical swinging acrobatics, Russian devil clown act, high-wheel cycle skipping act and pocket cycle, Russian clown skipping act and elephant cricket. There are three shows every day (1 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.). Tickets are priced at Rs. 40, Rs. 100, Rs. 200 and Rs. 250. Tickets may be booked in advance for Rs. 250.
