Onion to be sold through TNCSC, Amudham outlets

Special Correspondent

A committee has been formed to procure commodity from North India

CHENNAI: The State government has taken steps to sell onion through the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation and Amudham outlets in Chennai and other districts.

In a press release, Food Minister E.V. Velu said a committee comprising senior officials of the Civil Supplies Corporation had been constituted to procure onions from North India and they would be sold at a fair price.

He said the price of onion in the State depended on the arrival of stocks from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra and there was a drastic decrease in their arrival.

Export factor

Moreover the export of onion to Singapore, Malaysia and Bangladesh had depleted the stock position in the country.
