Bangalore: Kashyap Ashok sailed into the under-16 semifinals of the AITA Talent Series National-ranking tennis tournament with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Poorva S. Kumar here on Wednesday. The boys' top seed will now play Gautham Ramkumar for a place in the final after the latter defeated Tamil Nadu's S. Ganesh 6-2, 6-3. Sri Lanka's N. Nishangan, meanwhile, continued his good run, progressing to the last four in both the under-16 and under-14 categories with comfortable wins in the quarterfinals. In the girls' section, second-seed S.P. Ritu crashed out in the under-16 section after her straight-set loss to T. Shankari, another Sri Lankan player. Chess tournament Innovators Chess Academy will conduct the Karnataka State Open FIDE rated championship at the State Youth Centre from December 28 to January 2 under the auspices of United Karnataka Chess Association.
