Kashyap in u-16 semifinals

Bangalore: Kashyap Ashok sailed into the under-16 semifinals of the AITA Talent Series National-ranking tennis tournament with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Poorva S. Kumar here on Wednesday. The boys' top seed will now play Gautham Ramkumar for a place in the final after the latter defeated Tamil Nadu's S. Ganesh 6-2, 6-3.

Sri Lanka's N. Nishangan, meanwhile, continued his good run, progressing to the last four in both the under-16 and under-14 categories with comfortable wins in the quarterfinals.

In the girls' section, second-seed S.P. Ritu crashed out in the under-16 section after her straight-set loss to T. Shankari, another Sri Lankan player.

Boys: U-16: Kashyap Ashok bt Poorva S. Kumar 6-1, 6-1; Gautham Ramkumar bt S. Ganesh 6-2, 6-3; N. Nishangan bt M. Arjun 6-1, 6-3; Anthony Savio bt A. Abhijith 6-1, 6-2.

All-round show

Mukesh's all-round show (53 and four for 35) helped KHS Adarsh HS defeat Ryan International School by 20 runs in the B.T. Ramaiah Shield under-14 tournament match here recently.

The scores:

KHS Adarsh HS 194 in 37.4 overs (Mukesh 53, Vikram Singh 50, Raja Chetan four for 44) bt Ryan International School 174 for nine in 38 overs (Itihaas 27, Rishabhi 26, Mukesh four for 35).

Mirambika School for New Age 92 in 42.2 overs (Krishna 26, Naveen three for 11) lost to School Vivekananda 94 for one in 7.4 overs (Aditya 35 n.o., Abbas 28).

Century in vain

A.M. Hemanth's unbeaten century went in vain as Mysore Zone conceded the first innings lead to Bangalore City XI in the KSCA under-14 inter-zonal tournament here on Wednesday.

Hemanth's 104 n.o. proved inadequate as Mysore, resuming on 99 for five on the second and final day, was dismissed for 210 to hand the host a lead of 33 runs.

Bangalore City XI 243 in 72.3 overs and 147 for six in 44 overs (Ankit Mishra 55, S.K. Shivil 26, N. Puneeth 25 n.o., Guruprasad five for 44) drew with Mysore 210 in 70 overs (A.M. Hemanth 104 n.o., Vishwas 43, Rahul Pinto three for 51, S.K. Shivil three for 53).

Bangalore Zone 264 in 70.1 overs and 134 for three in 26 overs (B.R. Sharath 78, Desmond A. Das 37) drew with Combined City XI 157 in 65.2 overs (Om Prakash 57, Adhoksh Hegde 28, Likit Bannur three for 36).

Shimoga 174 for eight in 75 overs and 54 for seven in 31 overs (G. Vaibhav five for 6) drew with Dharwad 256 in 74.5 overs (G. Naveen 67, Nischit Hegde 43, Akshay Hiremath 35, G. Vaibhav 35, Puneeth three for 29).

President's XI 244 in 64.1 overs and 137 in 43.5 overs (K.L. Shrijith 26, Varun Ballu 26, Chandrakanth six for 26, N. Raghavendra three for 20) drew with Raichur 153 in 45 overs (Raghavendra 31, Tejas Gowda four for 37, Vyshak Vijay Kumar four for 47) and 80 for four in 22 overs (Chandrakanth 45).

Rohit advances

Rohit Haybathi defeated M. Atharva 30-18 in the boys' under-13 final qualifying round match of the Five Star State-ranking badminton tournament in progress here at the KBA Courts.

The other qualifiers are:

Boys: Under-13: M. Rohith, Nadhir, Shakeel, R. Yogesh, Anish Kashi, Hariharan and Rohan Haybathi.

Under-16: Rahul Shenoy, Rohith Karnatak, Karthik Vijay, Akhilesh Moktali, Shreyas, Sachin Jaison, Nishanth Kumar and Tejas Koushik .

Chess tournament

Innovators Chess Academy will conduct the Karnataka State Open FIDE rated championship at the State Youth Centre from December 28 to January 2 under the auspices of United Karnataka Chess Association.

The tournament serves as selection trials for the National Challengers Championship.
