DMK image has taken a beating: Jayalalithaa

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Jayalalithaa on Thursday said the image of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam had taken a severe beating owing to the 2G spectrum scam. Never before has the world witnessed a scam of such magnitude. She demanded the arrest of former Telecom Minister A.Raja.

Addressing newsmen at the Thiruvananthapuram airport en route to Marthandam for attending a party programme, she said that she has kept her options open in supporting the UPA Government and it was for them to decide.

Referring to the Mullaperiyar issue, she said the fears raised by the Kerala government over the safety of the dam are aimed at abrogating the water-sharing agreement with Tamil Nadu. The dam is only 50 years old and hence is quite safe as experts have pointed out, she added. She said any adverse decision would affect five districts in Tamil Nadu which are making a substantial contribution to national food security and reduce them to a desert. She raised a party flag outside the airport and greeted the party workers gathered there. “This is the first flag being raised in Kerala and the party will go from strength to strength as in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Puducherry and other places,” she said.
