Kiran visiting Tirupati today

Special Correspondent

Naidu's indefinite fast casts shadow on his maiden visit

TIRUPATI: TDP supremo N. Chandrababu Naidu's week-long indefinite fast and the consequent deterioration in his health parameters, touching off in its wake a political turmoil in the State, is sure to cast a deep shadow on the maiden visit of Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy's visit to Tirupati on Friday.

In fact, there is not much of a hype in the Congress party camp here over his visit, though he is coming to his home-district for the first time after his dramatic forays to the top slot in the State. Added to this is the political upheaval in the State triggered by Chandrababu's fast unto death, which is causing a major political discomfiture personally to Kiran Kumar Reddy and to the party leadership as well, appears to make his visit a relatively low key affair.

His three-day elaborate visit to the district, coming as it does in the midst of the politically surcharged atmosphere, is none the less giving anxious moments to the district civil and the police administration.

What adds an interesting dimension to the situation is that Chittoor district is the home-ground of both - Chandrababu Naidu and Kiran Kumar Reddy - who never saw eye to eye. And as such it is to be seen how the situation would be like in the district during the next three days when Mr. Kiran will be camping here. As for the Chief Minister's itinerary for the next three days, he will fly into Tirupati at 4.15 p.m. and will be meeting officials at the airport VIP lounge before proceeding by road to Tirumala for darshan of the Lord and overnight stay on the hills. On Saturday, he will visit the Vengamamba tomb and motor down to Tirupati for a review meeting with the district officials on the rain havoc. He will later board a chopper and fly to his native village - Nagaripalle near Kalikiri, to attend programmes locally arranged and will halt for the night.

The next day, he will take-off from Nagaripalle by helicopter to Tirupati airport and hop into the scheduled aircraft on his flight back to Hyderabad at 8.10 a.m.
