Zainab Ali moves up

HYDERABAD: Zainab Ali Sajjad of Andhra Pradesh scored a 6-4, 6-2 win over her statemate Gutta Sushma in the women's singles second round of the All India ranking tennis tournament at Bhimavaram on Thursday.

The results (second round): Men: S.V. Abhishek (AP) bt Elangovan Neeraj (TN) 6-2, 6-7(4), 6-1; P.C. Vignesh (AP)bt Vishnu Bestha (AP) 6-0, 6-2; Ajay Selvaraj (TN) bt Krishik Divakar (Kar) 6-2, 6-4; Lakshit Sood (UP) bt Arvind Singh (Raj).

Women: Nidhi Chilumula (AP) bt M. Arthi (TN) 6-0, 6-2;Vaniya Dangwal (Dli) bt Bavisetty Sowjanya (AP) 6-4, 5-7, 6-2; Ethee Mehtha (Guj) bt V. Archana (Kar) 7-5, 6-4; Preethi Srinivasan (TN) bt Doondi Priya (AP) 7-6(4), 7-6(2); Zainab Ali Sajjad (AP) bt Gutta Sushma (AP) 6-4, 6-2; Garima Vatvani (Dli) bt Abhilasha Ahuja (Har) 6-2, 3-6, 6-0 .

HCA league

Hyderabad Cricket Association's A-Division two-day, three-day and the one-day knockout tournaments will commence from December 27. The draw copies are displayed on the notice board at Gymkhana Grounds and copies of the same can be collected from the HCA office.

Selection trials

Andhra Pradesh Olympic Association will organise selection trials for men and women on December 29 at the A.C. Subba Reddy Stadium (Nellore) to pick the State teams for the 33rd senior National softball championships to be held in Chandigarh from January 5 to 10, 2011. The players should report at the venue by 10.00 a.m.

Bridge championship

Deccan Club will organise the 11th All India Deccan Club annual bridge championship from December 25 to 26.
