Protest against site swap order

Staff Reporter

Order termed injustice towards SC communities

Venting their ire:Members of Samata Sainika Dal burning an effigy of Hartal Halappa in Bangaloreon Thursday.

Bangalore: Members of Samata Sainik Dal (SSD) on Thursday staged a demonstration in front of BDA office protesting against Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa's order directing BDA to swap a site allotted to former MLA S.M. Muniyappa in HAL 2 {+n} {+d} Stage with that allotted to the former Minister Hartal Halappa in RMV Extension. They demanded that the swapping order be cancelled with immediate effect.

The members, who termed this as injustice towards the Scheduled Caste communities as Mr. Muniyappa is a SC, burnt an effigy of Mr. Halappa. Shouting slogans against the Bharatiya Janata Party Government, BDA and Mr. Halappa, the protesters gheraoed the BDA office.

They dispersed only after BDA Commissioner Bharat Lal Meena met them and accepted a memorandum. He assured the protestors that he would forward the same to the Chief Minister. SSD president M. Venkatswamy said that Mr. Halappa had got his RMV Extension site swapped with the HAL 2 {+n} {+d} stage site of Mr. Muniyappa after he learnt that the RMV extension site was a disputed one.

“It is unfair on the part of the Chief Minister to direct the BDA to swap the sites. This is a classic example of the BJP's anti-Dalit attitude. Mr. Muniyappa is an SC and deserves the HAL site as he had been allotted it first in 2004, whereas Mr. Halappa owns several sites and bungalows in the city,” he said.

Mr. Venkatswamy urged the BDA to clear all backlog site allotments to members of SC, ST communities.
