Bangalore: Bangalore-based ICICI Manipal Academy for Banking and Insurance is planning to open its doors for other banking firms to utilise the one-year residential training-cum-post-graduate diploma course in banking, which is, at present, offered to only candidates selected by ICICI Bank for the posts of level-1 assistant managers. Talking to presspersons here on Thursday, Sunil Kishore, Vice-President and Head (Corporate Education), Manipal Education, said the academy is holding talks with other banks to offer the training and post-graduate diploma in banking for candidates selected for the post of probationary officers. He also said that the academy intends to expand its boundaries beyond banking and insurance sectors. “We intend to explore the possibility of offering training and diploma course in the retail and telecom sectors. However, there is no sector-specific move yet,” he said. The academy is a corporate university started jointly by Manipal Education and ICICI Group to train probationary officers of ICICI Bank who are subsequently absorbed in the managerial cadre of the bank. A fresh batch of probationary officers is sent to the academy for training every three months by ICICI Bank and the training programme includes a nine-month study on the academy campus and a three-month internship in a branch of the bank. At the end of the training, the candidates will have to appear for an examination conducted by Manipal University.
