National Consumer Day observed

Special Correspondent

VISAKHAPATNAM: Railway staff should thank every passenger with a pleasant smile every time he/she completes the journey, which will assuage their hurt feelings due to lack of proper service or due to behaviour of fellow passengers, former Andhra University Rector A. Prasanna Kumar has said.

Waltair Divisional Railway Manager N. Kashinath led the railway division in observation of the National Consumer Day on Friday. The Consumer Protection Act -1986 came into force on December 24 that year and to create awareness among the consumers National Consumer Day is observed.

Explaining the expectations of consumers, Prof. Prasanna Kumar said consumers of the Indian Railways were passengers, who seek a convenient accommodation for the length of journey. These consumers were in need of help from service provider to make the journey pleasurable, hence it was crucial for the Railways to gently pacify an issue without any complaint and avoid displeasure.

The DRM said the consumers also should feel the responsibility and report any sort of inconvenience to the service-provider. Based on need every service-provider should rise to the occasion, speak so politely to the consumers that the consumer was satisfied.

Meeting was attended by all branch officers and Senior Divisional Commercial Manager H.L. Luwang thanked participants.
