Lepakshi expo begins

VISAKHAPATNAM: A nine-day Lepakshi exhibition of wide ranging crafts and textiles began at the Rythu Bazar Grounds, adjacent to MVP Rythu Bazar, on Saturday evening.

About 60 stalls displaying handicrafts, textiles, toys, paintings, pearls and a variety of goods are set up by 50 artisans at the sprawling premises which has been cleaned and dressed up for the show.

New venue

“This is a new venue in the city and we are hopeful the exhibition will attract the festive crowd.

Our exhibition promotes crafts and textiles of Andhra Pradesh and other states by providing marketing facility to encourage artisans who sell their products directly to consumer for less than market price,” said Senior Manager of Lepakshi Handicrafts Emporium in the city Jaganmohan.

The exhibition will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

Sahranpur wood carvings, Lucknow chikan works, Banares sarees from Uttar Pradesh, rosewood carvings, agarbathies and perfumes from Karnataka, Chanderi and Maheswari sarees and bellmetal ware from Madhya Pradesh, Kashmiri shawls and silks, embroidery dresses, Bengal sarees, jute bags and clay dolls from West Bengal, Madurai cotton sarees, beautiful Tanjore paintings from Tamil Nadu, dress material, tops, wood carvings and jewellery from Rajasthan, bedsheets and dress material from Haryana and Gujarat are on exhibition-cum-sale.

From Andhra Pradesh, a variety of Kondapally toys and Kalamkari from Krishna district and Etikoppaka in Vizag, crochet lace from Narsapur, pearls, metal castings, Banjara hand embroidery from Hyderabad, Mangalagiri, Pochampalli, Venkatagiri, Gadwal, Narayanpet sarees and Chirala fabrics are available.
