COIMBATORE: Sightsavers, a United Kingdom-based charity organisation, and UDIS Forum, a network of various organisations for and of the disabled, have come together to launch a project for the differently abled. A release from UDIS said the project would extend various services in a phased manner to the challenged people across Tamil Nadu. The emphasis of the project would be on the following main schemes: employment guidance programme for persons with disabilities, promotion of youth wing for disability services, carrying out advocacy programme and encouragement of new disabled people's organisations. The aforementioned objectives would be executed through disabled people's organisations, which would serve as the district-level nodal agencies. Initially the programme would be launched in five districts where such services were not adequately available. The release added that Shrinivas Sawant, Area Director, South India, Sightsavers, Mumbai, spoke on why the organisation was interested in supporting the project. M.N.G. Mani, Founder and Managing Trustee, UDIS Forum, presided over the function.
