MLA denies charge against Congress

Correspondent

Karwar: J.D. Naik, Bhatkal MLA, has denied the allegation of some leaders of Namadharis that the Congress has not considered the community while distributing ticket for the zilla and taluk panchayat elections.

L.S. Naik, president of the Bhatkal Taluk Namadhari Sangha, is contesting as a rebel Congress candidate from Jali constituency as the party denied ticket to the community to contest the elections.

Though there are many voters from the Namadhari community in Jali, the Congress has fielded Abdul Rahim from the minority community.

Mr. J.D. Naik told presspersons here that candidates from the Namadhari community were contesting in nine zilla panchayat and 25 taluk panchayat seats in Uttara Kannada on the Congress ticket. But in Jali, the Congress gave ticket to a candidate from the Muslim community as there were many voters from that community.

He said that some leaders from the Namadhari community who were benefited by the Congress in past were now trying to contest as rebels.

He requested the rebel candidates to withdraw from the fray or they would face disciplinary action. He expressed hope that the official candidates of the Congress would win more seats in the elections.
