Demanding amenities: The people of Hotegali have decided to boycott zilla and taluk panchayat elections until their demands are met. Karwar: The people of Hotegali in Karwar taluk have decided to boycott the zilla and taluk panchayat elections. They held a meeting on Saturday, expressing their unhappiness about the negligence of the village by successive governments and elected representatives. They alleged that despite their repeated requests to the public representatives to provide basic amenities to the village, nothing was done. The main grouse of the voters is the check-dam across the Kali near their village breached several years ago. The saline water entered their agricultural fields, rendering the crops useless. Several requests to the elected representatives and the officials to repair the check dam had fallen deaf ears. The condition of the roads in the village was bad. There was no primary health centre in the village. The sick had to go to Karwar for treatment. The public transport system was bad and the power supply was erratic. The people of the village said they would cast their votes only if their demands for basic amenities were fulfilled by the Government.
