SANGAREDDY: The Deccan Development Society (DDS) in collaboration with the Acharya N.G. Ranga Agriculture University (ANGRAU) has taken up a study on the effectiveness of feeding local millet based recipe to anganwadi children aged between 3-5 years. The year long study taken up with an estimated cost of Rs. 3.19 lakh would be completed next year. Around 320 children in 10 villages -- Yedakulapalle, Bidakanne, Cheelamamidi, Kambalapally, Potpally, Gunthamarpally, Jeerlapally, Pylaram, Edulapally and Yelgol-- in Jharasangam mandal were selected for this purpose. The specific objectives of the studies are to assess the impact of feeding local millet based recipes on the nutritional status of anganwadi children by clinical assessment and to conduct bio-chemical assessment for nutritional status and morbidity in children. During the study while the children from two villages would be given the present diet, children from two more villages would be given millet based food. The children of remaining villages would be given a mixture of regular and millet based food. As part of the study, urine and blood samples were being collected from the children on periodical basis to analyse them with the help of the government hospital staff located at Zaheerabad.
