Poovanna excels
Bangalore: B.P. Poovanna's hat-trick propelled MEG to a 3-1 win over Central Excise in a State Super Division hockey league match here on Sunday.
Although MEG fell behind on nine minutes to an Anup Anthony strike, Poovanna's goals in the 22nd, 30th and 47th minute delivered the side victory.
The day's second match, between Canara Bank and Centre of Excellence, was stopped five minutes from the end due to bad light. Canara Bank led 1-0, through an Appanna goal on 45 minutes, when play was suspended.
The match will be completed, at the end of the first phase, only if the result will affect either side's progress to the next stage of the competition.
The results: MEG 3 (B.P. Poovanna 22, 30, 47) bt Central Excise 1 (Anup Anthony 9); Canara Bank 1 (Appanna 45) vs. CoE 0, play suspended .
