Thiagarajan excels

Coimbatore: Sri Ramakrishna Mills Sports Club (SRMSC) found a hero in S. Thiagarajan on Sunday.

The gritty all-rounder scored 38 and then produced a deadly spell of five for 8 to help SRMSC to a convincing 98-run win over Coimbatore Raiders Cricket Academy (CRCA) in the final of the CDCA-Coimbatore Raiders T20 cricket tournament, for the Aircel Trophy, here.

After posting 165 for nine in its allotted 20 overs, SRMSC bundled out CRCA for a paltry 67 in a less than 17 overs. Left-arm spinner C.K. Annoch Kumar also played his part with a three-wicket haul. Apart from the trophy, SRMSC won a cash purse of Rs one lakh.

Earlier, Rainbow Cricket Club posted a 43-run win over Coimbatore Friends Cricket Club to finish third.

S.P. Sarathy, Regional Head Operations (ROTN) of Aircel, along with P.R. Ramakrishnan, Vice-President of Coimbatore District Cricket Association, gave away the prizes.

The scores:

Final: SRMSC 165 for nine in 20 overs (S. Thiagarajan 38, Karthik Kumar three for 29, Venkatesh three for 38) bt CRCA 67 in 16.1 overs (S. Thiagarajan five for 8, C.K. Annoch Kumar three for 18).

Third place: Rainbow CC 174 for seven in 20 overs (Praveen 61, Mohan 34, Saravanan 31, Thiagarajan three for 19, T.K.R. Dinesh three for 28) bt Coimbatore Friends CC 131 in 17.5 overs (Rajesh three for 15).

Special awards: Man of the series: S. Ashok Kumar (CRCA); Man of the final: S. Thiagarajan (SRMSC); Men of the semifinals: C.K. Annoch Kumar (SRMSC) & S. Ashok (CRCA); Best batsman: Huzefa M. Patel (SRMSC); Best bowler: Venkatesh (CRCA); Best fielder: K. Nazer (SRMSC) .

Easy for Tirupur CC

Tirupur Cricket Club defeated Best VP 11 CC by four wickets in the TNCA-CDCA second division league for the Unidriveline Trophy at the TNAU grounds on Sunday.

The scores:

Second division (Unidriveline Trophy): Best VP 11 CC 106 in 31.1 overs (Stalin three for 15) lost to Tirupur CC 107 for six in 29.1 overs (Vijayakumar three for 27).

Third division (Servall Trophy): Senthil Srinivasan MCC 207 in 48 overs (Balachander 55) bt Rainbow 1972 MMCC 178 in 33.1 overs (Sathish 54, Murugesh five for 39).

Fourth division (Tirupur Textiles Trophy): Mani HSS 107 in 40 overs (Karthick three for 18) lost to Zero Boys 109 for five in 22.1 overs (Karthick 37); PSG Polytechnic 104 in 35 overs (R.M. Narayanan three for 40, Mohan Raj three for 23) lost to Rainbow Wizards CC 107 for one in 19.2 overs (Mahesh Kumar 60 not out, Rajiv 35); Coimbatore Institute of Technology 186 in 41 overs (G. Tamil Kumaran 49, Natesan 40, Muthkumar four for 26) bt ABT CC 52 in 24 overs (G. Tamil Kumaran four for 7) .
