Runaway boy from Salem restored to kin

TAMBARAM: A 15-year-old boy studying in class X in Salem district, who left home with a large amount of cash on a scooter, was restored to his relatives after he was intercepted by a policeman in Meenambakkam on Saturday evening.

The teenager was living in Vannangadu in Chettipalayam village in Kumaramangalm post, Tiruchengode in Salem district. Studying in a private school in Tiruchengode, he is reported to have been scolded by his father for not fairing well in studies.

His father owned two borewell lorries . Early on Friday, the boy took a sum of Rs. 6.39 lakh from an almirah and left the house on a scooter.

He reached Tiruchi, where he spent the night in a lodge.

On Saturday morning, he tried to book a train ticket to Mumbai and Chennai but as he did not get either, he came to Chennai riding the two-wheeler. On the way, he also purchased a cell phone for Rs. 6,500. According to the Meenambakkam police, the boy was searching for a friend's house in Chennai but got lost and was travelling on Grand Southern Trunk Road when he was intercepted by a police team.
