TIRUNELVELI: A farmer at Shencottah in the district was murdered at his workplace by alleged administration of poison on Sunday.
Police said K. Liyaqat Ali (38), a father of two children from Meenakshipuram near Shencottah in the district developed an illicit affair with a girl from the same area despite stiff resistance from the girl's family. As the relationship continued even after several warnings, the girl's maternal uncle Balu of the same area and his friends attacked Liyaqat Ali.
After tying his hands and legs, the gang poured poison into Ali's mouth. When the gang left the spot, farmers nearby rushed Ali to hospital, where he died.
While the Shencottah police arrested Balu on Monday, a hunt is on to nab his associates.
