Manmohan's heart surgeon injured in mishap

Guwahati: Noted cardiac surgeon Ramakant Panda of Mumbai-based Asian Heart Institute, who conducted heart surgeries on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in 2009 and on Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi this year, has been injured in a road accident in Nagaon district of Assam. Dr Panda's son, the driver of the vehicle in which he was travelling also sustained injuries in the mishap, which took place in the wee hpurs of Monday.
Dr. Panda was on his way to Kaziranga National Park with his family.
Nagaon Deputy Commissioner M. Angamuthu told The Hindu that the accident occurred when Dr. Panda's vehicle hit another vehicle which overturned at Samaguri. Dr. Panda, who sustained injuries on his scalp, his son on his hand and other family members and the driver of the vehicle, who sustained injuries on his forehead, were rushed to hospital in Nagaon.
Mr. Angamuthu said medical examinations done at Nagaon hospital revealed that there was nothing to worry but Dr. Panda, his family members and the injured driver were airlifted in an Indian Air Force chopper around 3-30 a.m.to Guwahati for better treatment.
