Transport strike disrupts life in J&K
Jammu: Normal life was disrupted here on Monday due to a strike by a private transport union demanding scrapping of the passenger tax and withdrawal of attempt to murder cases against drivers in Jammu and Kashmir. All public transport, including long distance buses and private cars, went off the road in Jammu and other regions in support of the All Jammu and Kashmir Transport Association's strike call. However State-owned State Road Transport Corporation buses to ferry people were operated. “We are demanding scrapping of the passenger tax and cases registered against drivers in connection with accidents under Section 307 of the Ranbir Penal Code [attempt to murder],” said Vijay Kumar, spokesman of the association. — PTI
