KCR asks cadre to gear up for polls
N. Rahul
HYDERABAD: Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhar Rao has asked his party cadre to gear up for mid-term elections which he contended were likely any time both at the Centre and in the State.
Addressing the TRS executive ahead of the Srikrishna committee report, Mr. Rao is reported to have hinted at polls citing “trouble” that rocked the Central and State governments.
Mr. Rao did not refer to the Srikrishna report at the executive but made a passing reference to it at an open meeting with TRS workers later. He said on the one hand there were swift developments on the separate Telangana front, as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh discussed the coming report with his Cabinet colleagues, but, on the other, police battalions were rushed to the State ‘to crush the movement.' Is this a gift to the people of Telangana for showing yearlong patience since the agitation peaked last December, he asked.
The executive finalised a series of agitational programmes to be launched from January 1 irrespective of the outcome of the committee report, demanding introduction of a bill on separate Telangana in the budget session of Parliament.
