‘277 OBC students denied admission to JNU'
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: The faulty admission criteria of Jawaharlal Nehru University here with regard to candidates from the Other Backward Classes has resulted in 277 students being denied admission this year, students have alleged.
At a press conference organised by the All-India Backward Students' Front, All-India Students' Association, Democratic Students' Union, Progressive Students' Union, Students' Federation of India and United Dalit Students' Front, the JNU administration was criticised for filing a review petition challenging the Delhi High Court September 7 judgment “which had indicted JNU's admission policy on OBC reservations”. The High Court upheld its September 7 verdict.
Requisite norms
M. Phil student Usham Rozio Singh, who had to approach the High Court to secure admission in JNU, said the university had not been adhering to requisite norms while deciding the entrance examination cut-off for OBC students. “The university is supposed to allot not more than 15 per cent of the total marks for the viva component of the entrance. But JNU has fixed it as 30 per cent,” he added.
The university has also reportedly given zero marks to students in the viva component whereas it is required to give certain minimum marks to every student who appears for the viva.
