Extend deadline by two more years: residents Basic amenities needed in Ashraya colonies DAVANGERE: The residents of Ashraya houses in Davangere city took out a procession demanding that the district administration give them two more years' time to pay the remaining instalments for the houses. They claimed they were not in a position to pay the full amount by December 31, the deadline set by the administration to make full payment for their houses. Ashraya residents, led by B. Kalleshappa, president of the Ashraya Residents' Welfare Association, submitted a memorandum to the Commissioner of Davangere City Corporation claiming most of the people who had been given Ashraya houses were labourers, autorickshaw drivers, barbers, anganawadi workers and artists, who were not in a position to mobilise the balance amount in the range of Rs. 35,000-70,000 in the next three days. Demands The association also said that most of the Ashraya colonies were not given proper drainage facility and roads in the area were not asphalted. The corporation should provide basic amenities to the residents of Ashraya colonies and it should give at least two more years' time to settle the arrears. The residents, who staged a dharna in front of the corporation office, said they would continue their protest till December 31 and if the corporation failed to give them sufficient time to pay the remaining amount, they would step up their agitation.
