Rival groups clash in police station

Situation has been brought under control

Karwar: The clash between the supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and an independent candidate led to the clash between two groups at Kadra near Karwar on Wednesday. The police lathicharged to disperse the mob which was denied by the police.

Seeking vote

According to the sources, some supporters of BJP candidate Chaitra Kotharkar had gone to Laksmi Nagar area of Kadra to ask for votes.

But some supporters of independent candidate Heerabai Bandekar objected to it and reportedly asked the people not to vote for BJP candidate. Herabai was supported by the former Minister Anand Asnotikar.

Duel

This led to verbal duel between the two groups. Then both the groups reached the police station and began attacking each other. At this juncture, the police used mild force to disperse the violent mob. The situation was under control, the sources said.
