VISAKHAPATNAM: Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar must be conferred with nation's highest award Bharat Ratna for being a cricket legend and a player who made India proud with his many world records, said president of Visakhapatnam District Cricket Association D.V. Subba Rao here on Wednesday. Bharat Ratna to Sachin would inspire many cricketers and cricket lovers, former president of Andhra Cricket Association and manager of Indian team to the West Indies in the past, said while releasing a poster “Sachin should be given Bharat Ratna” brought out by sports lovers and voluntary organisations. Though personalities above 70 years of age were generally awarded the Bharat Ratna, in case of Sachin this norm could be relaxed since a cricketer would be retired before he or she turned 40, Mr. Subba Rao said. “If we do not honour him now, future generation might forget the great achievements of Sachin in future”, he said. Former Test umpire K. Parthasaradhi, vice-president of VDCA D.S. Varma, Telugu Desam leader S. Panduranga Rao who designed the poster, and others felt that it was almost impossible for any sportsperson to achieve the records of Tendulkar in future.
