Bangalore: State Government employees will get 22 public holidays in 2011 as May Day (May 1), Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti (October 2) and Christmas (December 25) fall on Sunday. The public holidays are: Makara Sankranti (January 15), Republic Day (January 26), Id-Milad (February 16), Maha Shivaratri (March 2), Ugadi (April 4), Ambedkar Jayanti (April 14), Mahaveer Jayanti (April 16), Good Friday (April 22), Basava Jayanti (May 6), Independence Day (August 15), Ramzan and Swarna Gowri Vrata (August 31), Vinayaka Chaturthi (September 1), Mahalaya Amavasya (September 27), Ayudha Pooja (October 5), Vijayadashami (October 6), Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti (October 11), Naraka Chaturdashi (October 25), Deepavali (October 27), Kannada Rajyotsava (November 1), Bakrid (November 7), Kanakadasa Jayanti (November 14) and Muharram (December 6). A government notification said if any of the holidays notified for Muslim celebrations do not fall on the date notified, Muslims in government service might be granted holiday on the date of observation in lieu of the holidays already notified. Local holiday has been declared for Kodagu district for Tula Sankramana on October 18 and Huthri festival on December 10. The State Government has declared holiday on April 1 and September 30 for closing accounts of commercial banks and cooperative banks only, the notification said. Restricted holidays Government employees are also eligible to avail of 14 restricted holidays. The list of restricted holidays for State Government employees for 2011 is as follows: New Year's Day (January 1), Holi (March 19), Devara Dasimayya Jayanti (April 8), Sri Ramanavami (April 12), Holy Saturday (April 23), Sri Ramanujacharya Jayanti (May 7), Buddha Poornima (May 17), Sri Varamahalakshmi Vrata (August 12), Jamat-ul-Vida (August 28), Onam (September 9), Vishwakarma Jayanti (September 17), Tula Sankramana (October 18), Guru Nanak Jayanti (November 10) and Christmas Eve (December 24).
