Congress suffers jolt in GVMC

Staff Reporter

Corporators supporting Jagan to sit separately in the council

Five corporators declare that they will fight on issues

Corporation meeting scheduled for today is likely to be adjourned

VISAKHAPATNAM: With some corporators owing allegiance to former Kadapa MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy declaring that they would fight on issues and sit separately in the municipal corporation meetings, the Congress suffered a jolt on the eve of a general body meeting. Congress deputy floor leader in the corporation K. Hanoku, K. Appa Rao, Ch. Nagaraju and V.Appa Rao (all Congress) and Tippala Nagi Reddy (independent) told a press conference here on Wednesday that they would fight on issues and further action would depend on the outcome. They would go according to the guidance given by their leaders, Mr. Hanoku said answering a question on whether they would dislodge the Mayor. They were one with Mr. Nagi Reddy in opposing Mayor Pulusu Janardhana Rao. Spouses of two corporators K. Susila and Anga Chandrakala were present at the press conference. Daughter-in-law of Mr. Nagi Reddy Emila Jhola has already expressed support to Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy.

Mr. Hanoku claimed A.S.N. Raju, G.V. Ravi Raju, Ch. Potharaju, Koppula Venkata Rao, Garikina Gowri, Dadi Satyanarayana and Dhulla Lakshmi were the other corporators supporting the former Kadapa MP. However, the corporation meeting scheduled for Thursday is likely to be adjourned as the TDP corporators would be going to the “Rythu Kosam” programme at Guntur.

The press conference was apparently called to inform about the ‘Odarpu Yatra' beginning in the district from January 3. It would begin in the city, cover the district and end again in the city, Mr. Hanoku said. Claiming the support of several MLAs, he said the ‘yatra' would be a success because of the programmes launched by Y. S. Rajasekhar Reddy.
