Metro train stalled at Patel Chowk

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Delhi Metro rail services on the Jehangirpuri-HUDA City Centre line suffered a temporary disruption in the afternoon after a train moving from Patel Chowk to Central Secretariat developed a technical snag.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation attributed the snag to a problem in the internal braking communication system of the train. This led to the special safety parking brakes being automatically applied by the train as per the safety design of the train management system. The incident led to train services on the line from Jehangirpuri to HUDA City Centre being disrupted between 12-52 p.m. and 1-58 p.m.

A passenger who boarded from G.T.B. Nagar at 1-30 p.m. said his train reached Patel Chowk only at 2-50 p.m. “My train was making long stops at all the stations on the way. At Kashmere Gate there was a large crowd waiting to get in. One person who boarded from there told me he was waiting for close to an hour for a train,” he added.

The DMRC technical teams released the parking brakes by going below the undercarriage of the train after which the affected train was coupled with a rescue train and the passengers were de-boarded at Central Secretariat. The rescued train was taken to Green Park siding for observation and Bombardier, the train-maker, have been asked to investigate the matter.
