Rs. 89.62 lakh given as loan at THADCO mela

NAGAPATTINAM: Subsidy based loans worth Rs.89.62 lakh, were distributed to 254 beneficiaries belonging to the weaker sections at the maiden loan mela organised by the Tamil Nadu Adi Dravida and Housing Development Corporation (THADCO) at the Collectorate hall here on Thursday.

A.K.S. Vijayan, MP, gave away the loans, which were sanctioned by the Indian Overseas Bank, Indian Bank, State Bank of India, Canara Bank and other banks functioning in the district under various government schemes.

The loans were given under the schemes of Harijan Women Land Purchase, Harijan Women Land Development, individual bank loan, self employment programme for youth and self help group economic activity loan.

The credit flow from the banks included a subsidy component of Rs.33.04 lakh sanctioned by THADCO.

Mr. Vijayan commended the THADCO and the banks for coming forward to sanction liberal loans for the socio-economic uplift of the Adi Dravidars. Explaining the financial viability of the banks, he appealed to the beneficiaries to promptly repay the dues.

The banks should continue to extend similar support for all the eligible beneficiaries being identified and recommended by THADCO, he said and added that economic support to the weaker section would bring about a revolution in their standard of living.

The purchase of land and its registration on women beneficiaries would ensure social security and financial independence for the women.

D. Sankara Narayanan, Senior Regional Manager, IOB, Nagapattinam; Agoranathan, district manager, THADCO; S. Suryakala, project officer, Mahalir Thittam; A. Thanikachalam, Lead Bank Manager; G. Gandhimathi, District Social Welfare Officer and S. Yamunabai, District Differently Abled Welfare Officer and others spoke.

Mr. Vijayan also handed over assistance of Rs.20.90 lakh to 85 women under the Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar marriage assistance scheme, Rs.1.52 lakh to ten female children under Sivakami Ammaiyar female children protection scheme and Rs.25,000 to a woman under Annai Theresa memorial destitute women marriage assistance scheme.
