COIMBATORE: Bharathiar University Teachers' Association has urged the State Government to reconsider the decision allotting land to Anna University of Technology, Coimbatore, on the Bharathiar University (BU) premises. It has also asked the Government to relocate the technical university elsewhere in the city. In a release, the Association said BU's development would be curtailed if it were to share its land with the university and it would be inappropriate on the part of the Government to promote one university at the cost of another. Very many educational institutions were located en route BU and one more in the neighbourhood would only add to the road congestion and also increase accidents. The Association also said that the proposed 130 acres for the technical university contained rare herbs and was the field for BU students to carry out research. The land was also frequented by wild animals. If the Government were to go ahead and use the land for construction it would seriously affect the ecology. Animal habitat Animal habitat would be destroyed and water sources destroyed. Considering the aforementioned points, the Government must rescind the decision to locate the Anna University at the BU campus and locate it elsewhere.
