THRISSUR: The Third International Theatre Festival of Kerala (ITFoK-2010) will conclude here on Friday.

Cultural Affairs Minister M.A. Baby, writer Sukumar Azhikode and film director Adoor Gopalakrishnan will take part in the valedictory function.

The staging of ‘Las Indias,' directed by Elias Cohen from Chile, will bring the curtain down on the 10-day festival.

The production will refer to some of the milestones in Latin American history: voyages of Christopher Columbus; Cuban revolution; paintings of Frida Kahli and Diego Rivera; metaphors of Neruda and Eduardo Galeano; the charms of tango and capoeira; the breath-taking music of Bossa Nova, Bolero and Cumbias; and the spirit of the Theatre of the Oppressed that Augusto Boal first elaborated in the 1960s.

A Latin American street and marketplace will be re-created at the K.T. Mohammed Memorial Regional Theatre.

The play will be acted out on different platforms. Christopher Columbus' speech on arriving at Las Indias (America) will be re-created on one platform, while tango and capoeira will be staged in another.

Extracts from the revolutionary speeches of Fidel Castro, Che Guevera and Evo Morales, the first native president of South America, will be presented.

‘Lila: Rama's Play', an Indo-Spanish co-production directed by Claudio Casero, was staged on Thursday night.
