U.P. stuns Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Uttar Pradesh shocked defending champions, Hyderabad, 3-0 in the boys' team event final of the 39th Junior and Youth carom nationals in Dehradun on Thursday.

In the girls' final, Bihar recorded a 3-0 win over Tamil Nadu.

final: Team: boys: UP bt Hyderabad 3-0 (Syed Wahib Ali bt D. Kalyan 21-1, 21-5; Mohd. Arif bt K. Srinivas 19-15, 16-15; Abdul Rahman & Mohd. Kashif bt V. Naresh & S. Sai 14-11, 21-13).

Girls: Team event: Bihar bt Tamil Nadu 3-0 (Deepika Sinha bt M. Kanagdhara 21-11, 21-10; Kajal Kumari bt P. Jayashree 11-3, 7-11, 21-7; Suruchi & Bibha bt S. Adhulya & Jyothi Pravalika 21-9, 19-3) .

Easy for SCF

Sports Coaching Foundation recorded a six-wicket win over Rodrigues CA in the under-15 semi-final of the Santa Cup sub-juniors cricket tournament here.

Semifinals: u-15: St. Joseph's 137 for nine (Manish 37, Naresh four for 26) lost to VPCA 140 for four (Shashidhar Reddy 43, Melwin John 35, Manish three for 15); Rodrigues CA 131 (Mohit Nagpal 51, Md. Touseef 32, Syed Ahmed five for 20) lost to SCF 133 for four (Md. Razzaq 71).

Abhinav, Sunil shine

Century by Abhinav Kumar (122) and Sunil Kumar's five for 15 helped Andhra Bank record a convincing, 177-run win over Sai Sathya Cricket Club in the A-Division knock-out tournament.

A-Division league: Zinda 152 (Amruth four for 29, Sai Nadh three for 18) lost to Khalsa 153 for three (Maneesh 38 not out, Akshath Kumar 33 not out).

It's Andhra vs. Osmania

Holder Andhra University will meet Osmania in the final of the South Zone inter-university tennis tournament for men on Saturday morning.

In the semifinals at the Andhra University K. Sudarsana Rao Tennis Complex on Thursday, Andhra beat Madras 3-1, with the latter conceding the tie during the first doubles match. Osmania beat RGUHS (Bangalore) 3-0 in the other semifinal.

The results:

Semifinals: Andhra bt Madras 3-1 (R.V.K. Sudarshan lost to Md. Ashraf 6-3, 3-6, 3-6; S.V. Abhishek bt Md. Niyaz 6-1, 6-0; Abhishek and Sudarshan bt Ashraf and Niyaz 6-2, 3-0 (conceded). Madras conceded the tie).

Osmania bt RGUHS 3-0 (Suresh Krishna bt H. Vikas 6-1, 6-0; Ankesh Bhargav bt G. Yashad 6-4, 3-6, 6-2; Suresh Krishna and Ankesh bt Gourav and Vikas 6-3, 6-0).

Quarterfinals:

Osmania bt Annamalai 3-1, RGUHS bt Anna (Chennai) 3-1, Madras bt Bangalore 3-2.
