KARIMNAGAR: Students of Bhagavathi High School in Karimnagar celebrated the Sankranthi festivities under the banner of “Sankranti Sambaralu” with much pomp and gaiety in a traditional manner in their school on Friday.

The school was colourfully decorated with rangolis, mango leaves and flowers for the festival. Students donned the roles of traditional “gangirerddu”, “Basavanna” and other traditional characters of the festival. They also lit the traditional Sankranti fire and cooked the ‘Payasam”.

The students also displayed traditional food items made during the Sankranti festivities of the region such as “Sakinalu”, “Areselu”, “Sarvapindi” and other hot and crunchy savouries and also sweets. The girls participated in the “kolatam” dance and some others participated in the “mehendi” competitions conducted by the school.

The students performed and depicted all the rituals conducted during the Sankranti festivities such as “Bommala kolavu”, kites, etc. It was surprising to note that the students including boys and girls participated in the rangoli competitions on the occasion. Indian Medical Association district general secretary and Rainbow voluntary organisation president Akula Shailaja participated as guest and visited all the stalls and complimented the students for depicting the traditional Indian culture and traditions celebrated during the festival. School correspondent B. Ramana Rao, principal B. Vijayalaxmi and others were also present.
