Naidu responsible for Almatti fiasco: Kanna Lakshminarayana

Staff Reporter

Guntur: Minister for Housing Kanna Lakshminarayana held TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu responsible for the Almatti dam fiasco, saying that it was Mr. Naidu, who could not stop Karnataka from going ahead with the dam construction when H.D. Deve Gowda was the Prime Minister.

Mr. Naidu, who was the Chief Minister then, led an all - party delegation to Delhi, but failed to get justice done. Mr. Gowda who harmed the interests of Andhra Pradesh by giving tacit support to his State Government for executing the controversial project, was basking in the company of Mr. Naidu in Thursday's Rythu Kosam meeting.Addressing media persons here on Friday, Mr. Lakshminarayana said the verdict given by Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal came up for discussion in the Cabinet meeting. The issue was being examined and a decision on the need to seek certain clarifications would be taken soon. The heightened Almatti dam was bound to adversely affect agriculture in the delta region as Karnataka would be able to impound more water.
