PUDUKOTTAI: The refresher training initiated by the district administration here on Saturday to mark the inauguration of the Road Safety Week, evoked an overwhelming response from drivers who had remained off the road for a few months.

Driving of vehicles needs a sustained practice and gap in driving leads to accidents, said A.Suganthi, Collector, who inaugurated the course at the Regional Transport Office. Overs-peeding and flouting of traffic rules were the causes for accidents.

Resource persons will impart training on ‘know your vehicle', ‘yoga', ‘vision', and road safety, she said. The training would enhance drivers' self-confidence.

N.Balagurunathan, Regional Transport Officer, said training would be given in batches and each batch would comprise 50 to 60 drivers.

Earlier, the Collector pasted the bull's eye stickers on headlights and reflectors on the rear of the vehicles. She distributed pamphlets on traffic and road safety to the public. M.S.Muthusamy, Superintendent of Police, S.S.Rajmohan, deputy manager, Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, Pudukottai, were present.
